FAQs
How much notice do I need to give when hiring a suit?
With Wedding suits we recommend you book as soon as possible. Due to our popularity particularly during the warmer months, the advantage of booking early is that it ensures you the suit style you want will be available and that prices don’t increase. If you are getting married between the months of September through to the end of April it is recommended you allow 3-4 months. Other times of the year allow at least 6 weeks. Individual suit hire can be done on the same day subject to availability.
When are the suits available for collection and required for return?
For weekend weddings, collection is normally Thursday (from 11am) and return on Monday (before 5pm) or next working day. This is a general guide but if you have different requirements, because you are traveling or live outside Melbourne etc, have a chat with the staff and they will be happy to come to an arrangement with you.
Should I try on my outfit before I wear it?
Yes, in fact we recommend that you have a final fitting on the collection of the outfit. This gives us an opportunity to overlook the suit, and make any adjustments as well as help you with neckwear and accessories should you require it. We are all trained in altering garments should you require it, and we do it whilst you wait. All our staff want to ensure you look fantastic, after all our suits are our best form of advertising.
When do I pay for the hire suit?
A non re-fundable deposit of $70 per suit is required when booking. The balance is then due upon collection.
Do I need to leave a security bond?
Yes, we require a credit card, which we swipe for pre-authorisation. This security deposit covers any late fees or damages whilst the garments are in your care. When all garments are returned this information is deleted from the system and you are given a receipt of return for proof.
What happens if I damage the suit or accessories or return the suit late?
If the garment can be repaired then you will be charged repair costs, but if the garment is damaged beyond repair, then you must pay for the replacement cost (not full RRP). The garments are then yours to keep!
If you return an outfit late you will incur a $100 late fee for the first day and $50 for each consecutive day.
We want to hire suits from Formal Red, but some of the wedding party are not able to come in for measurements!
No problem. We supply hundreds of suits every year to people we have never seen. Just let us know and we will give you a MEASUREMENT GUIDE for those unable to get to a branch, alternatively you can download a form from this web site. However, if at any stage the individuals concerned are passing our store, get them to pop in and have their measurements confirmed
Do all the members of my wedding party need to come for their fitting at the same time?
We normally recommend that the Groom, Bride and possibly the Best Man come in first and take their time trying on as many different suits and accessories as they like so you can see exactly how you will look on the big day. When you have decided on a certain outfit, we can then discuss what the other members of the party will wear. They can come in at a later stage either on their own or with you. You are more than welcome to visit us at any time, however we do prefer appointments.
I have an extremely large groomsmen, who might be hard to fit. Can you cater for his size?
The best thing to do is bring him down for us to see. Generally our largest sizes are 124R Jacket and 116 Trouser. This is due to our contemporary fit, which makes it difficult to go beyond this size. We do offer long fittings in certain styles and have catered for people as tall as 6’9, but again it depends on their build.
Do you hire children’s sizes?
Due to the delicate nature superfine Merino Wool we cannot offer kids suiting for hire. However we have an retail selection of Boys suits, shirts and accessories that compliment our Adult styles. These suits are Brand New, and priced comparative to what others charge for hire.
